“I will seek to form a government capable of working for the benefit of the society, the people and the State,” said Tadeusz Mazowiecki in his first speech to Parliament on 12 September 1989 after his appointment by the Sejm as prime minister of the first non-communist government after WWII. This was a breakthrough moment in Poland’s history.

“Poland’s legacy and experience can become a very important source of energy, which the EU needs and is going to need in the future more than ever before,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk said after his choice as new President of the European Council. He will take up his position on 1 December.

“What does the idea of solidarity mean to me today?”—this question will be answered by amateur filmmakers from around the world, who will take part in Solidarity Shorts, a film contest. Short films can be entered until 31 July 2014. The contest is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
