Great event for Polish Heritage Day in Liverpool hosted at St George's Hall!

The event started with a welcome by Polish Consul Miroslaw Sycz followed by a presentation of the significance of May celebrations for the Polish Community and especially 3rd of May - Polish Constitution Day and 2nd of May - Polonia Day and Flag Day.

Merseyside Polonia was proud to screen a documentary of a recent project "Searching for Polish Stories in Liverpool" and a short film presenting story of Sgt Jan Kobiela (300 Polish Squadron) that was told by his grandson John Bowen.

Cllr Anna Key and Polish Consul Miroslaw Sycz officially unveiled our new banner presenting "Polish History in Liverpool" based on Merseyside Polonia research over the recent months and showing that the history of the Polish Community in the city dates back to 1800s.

There was some fun as well with Liverpool-Polish Quiz - a bit of a discussion what's the most famous Polish dish and what's the highest point in Liverpool but the best part was presenting Liverpool or Polish song - there is a lot of hidden talent!

The event continued with presentation of what's best about Poland through film and brochures provided by Polish Tourist Organisation and followed by inspirational stories of representatives of the Polish Community in Liverpool.

At the end there was an opportunity to try some Polish cakes and get to know each other.

Big thanks to Merseyside Polonia Team and everybody who made it possible! Special thank you to Kiara @ Kia Studio for outstanding design of the banner and Aldona @ Forget Me Not Photography for beautiful photographs from the event!
